‘You wan blow, you be bomb?’
A funny line I remember from Funke Akindele in the ‘Jennifer’s diaries’ series
Everyone who is not yet a celebrity or a famous name must have at one point in time or the other wished to sleep and be all over the news the next morning.
I can’t count the number of times I fantasize being invited to shows and being like
“Oh it was really tough...”
or
“I had to wake by 5am and keep doing what I loved and now I’m here...”
The latter is usually a dream, around seven to eight A.M in the morning(laughs in shame).
What I would give to ‘blow’ right now. Or to fast forward to when I’ve already made it and I’m very successful and renowned.
Blowing can be defined (not according to the dictionary anyway) as the seemingly spontaneous projection of a person to fame or stardom. The movement of a person from obscurity to popularity, within a timeframe that seems ‘overnight’.
Whilst it is a most desired phenomenon, it is very uncommon.
The bitter truth about overnight success
It is already old news that overnight success is not really success that happened overnight. As much as I want it to be true, it just isn’t.
Most of all the content creators that seem to just sprout up and are everywhere, have been doing that for a longer period of time. They perfect the art of delivering themselves or what they have to offer even when they have only family and sometimes friends as cheerleaders. When they then make it, it seems like something that was handed to them because no one actually saw them fighting for it.
It doesn’t actually mean that people cannot just enter the spotlight for just any random thing. It’s one thing to go viral and another to stay relevant. What you put your time and effort into is what will bring people to you and keep them.
‘Blowing’ is usually a product of work, discipline, consistence and an opportunity. As easy as it is to enter the spotlight, so is it to leave. What you do and how well you do it-which is as a result of how much time you had spent on improving it- contribute to your staying relevant.
Even bombs have different grades and levels depending on what they’re made up of.
That said, would you rather get a lucky break or get what you work for? Would you want both? Abi any blow na blow?
