Post-COVID19: What could be our new normal?

Empty road and trees

From the beginnings, when opinions were that this would only take a few weeks at most, to the current, when it is gradually dawning on us that this is no joke. We have either begun to, or already realized that this pandemic has indelibly affected the world’s different ways of life – and all at the same time.

Will we come out of this to face a world similar to the post-apocalyptic or zombie-ish movies we’ve seen. Empty streets, abandoned cars, rusted iron, occasional howl of the wind and other characteristics?

The Corona Virus pandemic has shaken the globe, maybe not to the aforementioned exaggerated imaginations, but definitely visibly and tangibly. Can it possibly end? Will it ever be safe again? Will we ever return to hugs and crowds?

Well, the only question that we’ll attempt to take a look at, will be the ‘What could life after corona look like?

Business/Work
The world has been forced to find alternatives to physically coming to work. Organizations have shifted to a digital system of managing and handling their operations. Use of means to achieve this, most notably the Zoom app, has never been on this kind of rise. Even after the pandemic is over, we could be faced with a situation where companies adopt a digital approach and people find ways to still efficiently work from home. Online conferences could compete with or even displace physical meetings, not just across great distances but in local settings.

School
With many academic institutions round the globe already undertaking and enhancing online programmes and activities, the post-coronavirus era will definitely see governments better equip schools of all levels- primary through to tertiary, with necessities that will enable them to switch easily to a digital mode should the need arise. The outbreak has certainly pointed out the need for such, and governments that ‘have not been doing well’ will hereafter, definitely take measures to improve their educational sector.

Health
As fast-paced as the world’s improvement in health and medicine sector already is, this outbreak heralds an even greater acceleration. Disease prevention and response will be optimized for greater ease and efficiency. In preparation against future recurrences, mass testing and other processes will definitely be simplified but definitely not any less safer.

Technology
To provide the platform for everything else, advancement in technology is an obvious feature. Innovations and evolutions that back movement to cashless economies, boosts for other life aspects and improvements in outbreak-related issues like contact tracing et cetera.

No accurate picture can be painted of how the era after the pandemic will look like. But it has indeed served as an eye-opener and reminder that nothing is beyond change and that in the least expected moments, even the smallest of things can have the biggest of impacts. God alone is entirely and totally dependable, stock markets and even the surest investments are still volatile to varying degrees.

Throughout history, the world has survived terrible pandemics and bounced back even better. But one thing is for sure, the world can never be the same again.

Do you agree? What are your own opinions?

  1. It's true that the world can never be the same again because everyone will try to fit in the new environment. It's gonna be a new world whereby things would be done in different ways throughout the whole world. Many people will struggle with fear of being infected, worry, hunger, extreme poverty, and other hardships to mention a few.
I can only suggest that we should all follow the preventive measures and continue praying to God.

  3. I had the thought that it would come to this. But I even visualized far more worse scenes than the present. It's a great thing that the world is adjusting and still striving to survive. Nice piece(Gold)

    I love this quote;
"In the midst of every crisis lies great opportunity". Albert Einstein.
While the pandemic has affected and will continue to have impact in all sectors, one thing is sure, "change". Empire's will fall and new ones rise because the way things are done will change. But these new empires will be built buy those who seek out the opportunities in this crisis and exploit them.
Food scarcity, Agripreneurs will find ways to make food available and accessible.
Neglected diseases, health experts need to provide solutions.
What about the virtual learning, working from home, digital marketing? Techpreneurs can build platforms (apps, websites, etc) to make them work. The list is endless. The Covid-19 has helped differentiate the essential from non essential and that there are alternative ways to get things done and delivered. People who find this alternatives and provide such services will be celebrated post Covid.
