‘Stop all
that boring talk, let’s look at this realistically’... ‘That might be how you
are wishing it’ll turn out, but this is real life’... ‘We’re not in a fairy
tale...’.
Need more be
exampled? Optimism, a term that can be easily construed to mean a blind
approach to the realities of life, or a tendency to see only the good in every
situation – misconstrued actually. Optimism in two words could be – positive
outlook.
Being
positive doesn’t necessarily mean closing ones eyes to the situation that one
is in. Acknowledging the situation is in fact, a part of it. What is rather
different is that the optimist doesn’t resign themselves to the situation but
is conditioned to believe that there is a remedy, which is usually true. Trying
to and eventually seeing not always the good, but usually ways to bring out a
good out of a bad situation.
Better performance
Optimists
are more likely to keep at a problem till it is solved, hence they tend to
perform better due to a resilient mindset and confidence in themselves and
their abilities. Giving up at every roadblock doesn’t really bring results.
Better general health
Studies show
that optimists are generally healthier than pessimists. Having fewer
cardiovascular problems, lower stress levels and better cholesterol readings.
Live happier lives
Optimists
have a higher level of satisfaction than pessimists. In jobs, businesses,
relationships and other facets of life, they tend to be happier and more
satisfied.
Recover better
In cases of
untoward occurrences and experiences such as accidents, loss, heartbreak et
cetera. Optimists show better recovery and lesser tendencies to depression.
These are a
summarised few of the many research-proven benefits of optimism. As this is all
what science, or rather, what studies are saying, I’ll relate a very brief
experience.
“A long time
ago, I was stuck on a question in a Mathematics examination. I was almost
getting scared as I had wanted to reduce my failed questions. I kept at it
knowing that I’d eventually figure it out. Long story short, I failed the
question but I was happy I tried”
Please share
your own funny experiences and even more importantly, what you think of
optimism.

DeleteOptimist live happier than ever, they recover quickly, I am a testimony to that. I won't forget how I struggled with one physics question hoping to get the answer, in the end I got the steps correct but my answer was wrong, I was so happy that at least I tried and it wasn't all in vain
